Attendees will gain insight into what young people identify as most important in therapeutic care & how these views can inform practice, policy & service development. The session will be interactive & reflective, offering opportunities for discussion & shared learning. Anyone interested in improving outcomes for young people in residential care will benefit from attending.

Introducing the National Practice Guidance for Therapeutic Support in Wales, how it was developed & the practice model it was designed on, bringing to life the improved outcomes for care experienced young people & their families.

We will be sharing our experience of our connected practice model with young people & their families with complex lives. Highlighting how this fits with National policy direction within Wales & the importance of what young people need to recover & succeed in their lives, the nature of connections & relationships, which sits within a system of value-based partnerships & relational care for care experienced young people & their families.

7. Beyond the Label - How to identify, challenge and comission truly therapeutic fostering.

Location: Innovation 1st Floor (in the middle section)

What does “therapeutic fostering” really mean—and how can commissioners look beyond the label? This workshop will explore how to identify the essential components of a genuinely therapeutic fostering service and ask the questions that reveal what sits behind an agency’s offer.

Delegates will consider how to distinguish between therapeutic language and therapeutic practice, identify gaps in a placement’s support system, and explore how additional services can be commissioned to strengthen outcomes. Using practical examples, the session will provide commissioners with a clear framework for challenging providers and building the therapeutic network each child needs around their placement.

8. Cherry Tree Cottage: A Joint Model for Prevention, Recovery and Value

Location: Rookeries Ground Floor

Cherry Tree Cottage is a joint HCC/HPFT therapeutic children's home built for young people to step down from Tier 4, or preventative, to return back with their families &/or suitable ongoing care. This session covers the partnership model, the clinical & therapeutic framework (NVR, SPACE, ARC,DBT), & 3 years outcomes including cost comparisons against alternative placements & young people's own accounts of what changed for them. You'll leave with a clear picture of what integrated health & social care can achieve in practice, what it costs to run & what we'd do differently second time round, from staffing induction & embedded therapeutic model.
